Niche Site Challenge: Dead

“You need to know when to give up and quit.” I’ve heard this advice many times but I never seem to do well at implementing it. Well, I have decided to kill the Niche Site Challenge. Google has won. Every time my sites start to rank and make money, Google puts out an update and kills all the traffic. My dog website was starting to gain traffic in January and February and then the mid-March Google update smacked the traffic down to zero. It smacked all of my niche websites. I just can’t do this anymore. I’m exhausted and tired of always getting smacked.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars working on my sites over the past 3-5 years trying to get them to be exactly what Google wants. I apparently don’t know what Google wants as my sites have basically zero traffic and don’t make any money. I used to make thousands a month promoting Amazon Affiliates but now I’m lucky to make $10 a month. My sites are my babies so this hurts to type out but I’m getting rid of my nice sites. I’m tired of losing money on them each year and spending way too much time working on them when I could have been working on more profitable projects. Instead of working on my niche sites, I’m going to be focusing on other revenue streams such as Etsy, POD, Merch by Amazon, KDP, etc. I’ll post more about these revenue streams in another post.

I’ve been dreading making this post for months. I’ve started typing it many times before but could never hit publish. However, I’m leaving on a two week vacation and I wanted to get this out of the way before I left so that when I return, I can dive head first into increasing my other passive income streams. I’m going to make a post towards the end of May and outline exactly how I plan to do that. Sorry if this wasn’t the post you were expecting to read. Sometimes you just can’t win but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up on passive income. There’s still money to be made online and I’m going to find it!
